Status quo

   Shanxi Provincial Bureau of Prisons is a government institution that supervises the reform, economy and team construction of all prisons in Shanxi Province; it is also in charge of the adjustments of prison layout and setup, merge and withdrawal of internal organizations; it oversees the mid-and-long-term development plan of prison systems and manages information systems of various prisons in Xi’an, Wei’nan,Han’zhong and so on. However, the transmission of business data from local prisons and the feasibility of unified management have always posed a challenge for the bureau.

   Currently, the bureau relies on manual backup by prison webmasters and then transmitting data via FTP. But due to the lengthy and poor network lines, the transmission breaks off every few minutes which then require large amounts of resources to fix up the problem. Bureau leaders have realized the urgency and importance to deploy a data protection system that automatically performs data backup & recovery and ensure smooth data transmission.

Design

   Scutech has designed a data protection plan based on the existing network and application environments as well as customer requirements. The plan uses InfoKist to build the system via D2D2T which is an efficient, reliable and economical backup method that enjoys higher throughput rate and guarantees security and availability of data.

Topology

   It will deploy an InfoKist at the bureau as a backup and storage management server. Backup clients will be installed on local prisons so that clients can be connected to InfoKist to run backup task. Data will all be centralized in InfoKist for online data protection and then backup sets will be archived to tape library for offline protection.
