Scutech building a comprehensive backup platform for Jiangbei Health Center

Background

Due to the increasing amount of data, Jiangbei Health Information Center requires a more reliable backup system to guarantee a smooth operation of its business systems and ensure data security in case of disasters.


Requirements

When a disaster strikes, it usually takes days to recover the data with traditional backup method, which, however, can no longer meet the requirements of Jiangbei Health Information Center. It expects a system that guarantees an uninterrupted operation and can instantly recover the data after a disaster.

To do this, it needs to deploy both on-site and off-site disaster recovery solutions of the application systems. By comparing the loss a system downtime could cost and the profits a continuous business operation could generate, we could easily calculate the ROI of a disaster recovery solution.


Objectives

We propose that the objective should be to build a comprehensive disaster recovery platform that automatically conducts data backup to reduce the burden on admin and protect the system efficiently.

The disaster recovery platform should be able to:

1)    Perform backup for the operating system, disaster recovery, remote backup and cloud replication;

2)    Support popular databases like SQL Server, Oracle and DM;

3)    Support popular operating systems like Windows, Linux and Unix;

4)    Support automatic backup periodically and support full backup, incremental backup and log backup;

5)    Provide a web interface for users to manage;

6)    Store several backup versions and recover data to a specific version;

7)    Perform unified monitoring of main server, business system and backup server and alert the admin in case of abnormities;

This data backup and recovery solution should also realize:

1)    Fully automatic backup to simplify backup work, reduce misoperation and improve efficiency;

2)    Online backup of databases, files and operating systems of the application servers, periodic and automatic full and incremental backup to ensure backup integrity and reliability;

3)    High availability for key business systems and quasi real-time synchronization between database server and backup database server which allows backup system to manually take over and maintain business continuity in case of downtime of main system;

4)    Comprehensive functions, quick deployment and ease of operation and maintenance;

5)    A web interface to manage and maintain the whole backup system;


Overall design

Important data will be backed up on the storage media of the InfoKist so that the admin can recover the system instantly (instead of hours or days) in case of downtime or crash. Also, in case of data loss in the InfoKist, key data can be recovered from another InfoKist at disaster recovery center.
